I thought his speeches on the early church scholars were excellent. I had always wondered, "what happened after the death of the Apostles that made Christianity grow as much as it had.
. I know of St. Augustine but very little about his important predecessors. This book answers the question, and he crafts his speeches with his love for the Church fathers -- with a great deal of agapic sensitivity.
This Pope was truly an intellectual giant, as he produced at least 4 other books on the topic of Christianity which I intend to read, the next book on Christ's birth and early education ... Which is an unanswered question for me. My hunch is that Philo of Alexandria either tutored Christ directly, or one of his students worked on that. I am looking forward to reading the book.

Pope Emeritus Benedict will go down in history as the greatest Theologian of our generation for sure.
You can always be assured you are getting a well-written, well documented, and easy to read and study treatise. Truly one of the greatest and most prolific writers of our day.
His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI gives us a great introduction with this collection of papal audiences on the Church Fathers. I recommend this easy to read book of short reflections on some of the most influential Fathers the Church has ever seen to just about anyone. This is enough to stimulate the intellect and inspire the reader to live a life in constant pursuit of the Truth, who is Jesus Christ.
A quick read for each Church Father. Easy read.... much information compressed in a few pages.
